Served as President of a consulting service where I provided management and fiscal oversight of a non-profit consulting firm organized to help organizations, schools, government agencies, or NGOs, to provide services to developing nations. The company provided agriculture and technology products, business development, training, and consulting in developing countries. Among my duties:

  • Provided financial oversight for the company, including wire transfers, and letters of credit with other banks.
  • Responsible for linking buyers and sellers of various agricultural and technology-related products.
  • Provided grant-writing consulting services and training.

Teaching and Learning Materials


I directed the Africa Education Initiative (AEI) funded USAID Textbooks and Learning Materials Program (TLMP) in Ghana which as a sub-component of AEI, specifically focused on challenges relating to lack of textbooks and other learning materials. Its objective was to develop and produce textbooks and educational materials for grades KG-3 in mathematics, science, language arts, and reading for selected sub-Saharan African countries. This cooperative agreement was a Presidential Initiative funded by USAID for six years for 18.5 million dollars. Achievements included:


  • Worked directly with former President of Ghana, John Kufuor, and the USAID Ghana Mission to promote the AEI in the 170 districts and 10 regions in Ghana.
  • Provided technical expertise to the team on program strategy, design, and impact analysis. 
  • Served as Budget Officer and Secondary Fiscal Officer for the 18.5 million USAID-TLMP/Ghana cooperative agreement.
  • Exceeded their required deliverables of 600,000 units by 400%. 
  • Produced and distributed over 2.5 million units of learning materials, 290,000 resource materials which served about 1.6 million pupils and 22,000 teachers annually.
  • Served as the primary point of contact between CSU and other partnering institutions and supervised the conduction of teacher training workshops for over 200 teachers in Ghana.
  • Served as Assistant Editor for the twelve books developed, printed, and distributed under the TLMP.
  • Drafted Memorandum of Understandings with Universities in Ghana and the Government of Ghana for the development of TLMs, teacher training, and assessment.
  • Oversaw conduction of all educational assessments as they relate to Teaching and Learning Materials Programs in Ghana.
  • Oversaw the program pilot that was initiated in 14 deprived districts in Ghana.
  • Oversaw curriculum and material development that resulted in the adoption of the program by the Ministry of Education and subsequent the scaling of the program for national coverage of all 172 districts in Ghana. 


Training and Capacity Building


I directed the Education for Democracy and Development Initiative (EDDI) and Africa Education Initiative (AEI) funded by a cooperative agreement with USAID to develop educational curriculum with three South African Historically Disadvantaged Institutions (HDIs) [The University of Zululand; Mangosuthu Technikon and Kwa-Zulu Natal Coastal Further Education and Training College] in the areas of business, nursing, agri-business, and education. Based on the crucial need to improve services in nursing, business, and education to complete the transformation of South Africa from an apartheid nation to a free-market society. This was a Presidential Initiative implemented by Chicago State University and funded by USAID for 2.5 million dollars. Among my achievements:


  • Created infrastructure for offering international learning and research experiences to students matriculating at CSU and three selected South African Historically Disadvantaged Institutions (HDIs).
  • Implemented collaborative linkages between CSU and the selected South African HDIs to mutually strengthen the academic disciplines, administrative structures, and community development activities of participating institutions.
  • Conducted collaborative conferences and workshops (focusing on education, HIV and AIDS, and small business models in South Africa and Chicago).
  • Oversaw curriculum development within the integration of HIV/AIDS into all program components.
  • Instituted student and faculty orientation and cultural development program.
  • Oversaw educational assessment of elementary education in Kwazulu-Natal South Africa.
  • Arranged bi-annual visits for over 40 people between South Africa and the United States.
  • Restructured and expanded capacity building at the University of Zululand and Kwa Zulu Natal Coastal Training College, focusing on Outcome Base Education Curriculum and instructional materials assessment design.
  • Oversaw the academic program of four cohorts South African in a student exchange program.



Food Security and Agribusiness

Agribusiness Management Specialist/Consultant


Working for American Breeders Services, I assessed and managed a three (3) million USAID project to privatize the dairy market in Kenya, East Africa. Based on the vital need to provide cattle breeding services to the rural parts of the country and to improve agribusiness ABS entered a partnership with several NGOs, private businesses, and the Kenyan government to start dairy cooperatives. The goal of these cooperatives was to increase small-scale dairy farming in rural Kenya through the sale and distribution of bull semen and training Kenyan farmers in the areas of artificial insemination and breeding. My contributions included:

  • Developed education curriculum materials in the area of climate, business development, and public health issues for a distance learning program to be offered to rural farmers via The World Space Foundation a non-profit organization that provides educational and informational programming to people in developing countries via satellite radio.
  • Formulated strategy for applying digital radio technology and interactive video to provide distance learning for rural farmers engaged in agri-business through the development of small listening groups.
  • Investigated business technology opportunities in Africa in order to modernize agribusiness management with the Kenyan Digital Private Data Network and Kenya Education Network.
  • Developed business plans to Incorporate ABS in Africa. 
  • Established strategy for taking ABS public on the Kenyan Stock Exchange.
  • Provided on-farm business consultation and managed the sales force in rural Kenya.
  • Lived in the country to provide on-site supervision and consulting.
  • Negotiated and drafted contracts with the Kenyan government.
